Our family will be spending an academic year in Asia. Our apartment is low-maintenance—nothing fancy, but comfortable and affordable—and in a great central location. In the middle of the middle of Berlin, a 20-minute walk from the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), with a bus stop right outside the door; all major universities are easily accessible. Fourth-floor apartment with an elevator and a balcony, featuring 3 large bedrooms. Quiet and safe residential area, close to Charité and the Ministry of Economics. In the morning, you sometimes meet German politicians on their way to work. Near a park and the water. It’s ideal for visiting scholars in Berlin during the fall semester of 2026 and the spring semester of 2027. The area is also very child-friendly. In proximity to numerous kindergartens, some of the best public elementary and high schools, and a number of (private) international schools. Almost all the other good international schools outside of Mitte are located along the S9 line, so you can reach them from the main station without changing trains (with the exception of the John F. Kennedy School, but even that one is reasonably easy to get to). What's the neighborhood like? Lots of teachers, artists, and employees working for welfare and social organizations. The apartment building also has several integrated senior and care shared-living communities (WGs). We’d like to have a stress-free year abroad and are hoping for easygoing and responsible tenants so that we have to think as little as possible about Berlin.
